A Taste of Alexandria: A Foodie Adventure Through Egypt’s Mediterranean Jewel

Welcome to Alexandria — a city where the sea breeze carries the aroma of sizzling seafood, warm bread, spiced meats, and sweet, syrupy desserts. Known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean, Alexandria isn’t just rich in history and culture — it’s a paradise for food lovers craving an authentic and unforgettable Egyptian culinary experience.

This tour is not just about eating – it’s about savoring the soul of a city that has welcomed flavors from across the globe for centuries. From street food stalls tucked in hidden corners to elegant seaside restaurants, join us as we take your taste buds on a journey through time, spice, and story.

Your WOW TOURS EGYPT guide will meet you at your hotel and accompany you to begin the day like a local.

Morning: Breakfast by the Sea

Start the day like an Alexandrian! We begin our foodie adventure with a traditional Egyptian breakfast at a charming local café overlooking the Mediterranean. Picture yourself sipping hot tea or freshly brewed Arabic coffee, paired with a hearty spread of foul medames (fava beans slow-cooked with olive oil and cumin), taameya (Egyptian falafel made with green herbs and fava beans), Baladi bread, and creamy beyd bel bastirma (eggs with spiced dried beef).

Mid-Morning Bites: Stroll & Sample in the Old City

As the sun climbs higher, we head to the bustling streets of downtown Alexandria. Along the way, you’ll discover local bakeries with feteer meshaltet (Egyptian layered pies) filled with honey or cheese and try warm koshary — Egypt’s national street food layered with rice, lentils, pasta, spicy tomato sauce, chickpeas, and crunchy fried onions.

We’ll wander through Souq El-Attarine (the spice market), where the scent of cinnamon, cardamom, and dried hibiscus lingers in the air. Here, your guide will show you how Egyptians blend spices for their famous dishes — and you’ll get to take some home!

Afternoon Delight: Seafood Feast at the Corniche

No visit to Alexandria is complete without indulging in the city’s famous seafood. We’ll head to one of the legendary fish restaurants along the Corniche, where the daily catch is grilled to perfection.

You’ll choose your fish from the market display — sea bass, Bouri (grey mullet), calamari, shrimp — and have it cooked the way you love it: stuffed with herbs and grilled over charcoal. Served with tahini, rice with seafood, molokhia, and a squeeze of lemon, this is the true taste of Alexandria.

Sweet Escapes: The Dessert Trail

Now it’s time to explore Alexandria’s dessert scene – and trust us, it’s a highlight. We’ll visit Délices, one of the oldest patisseries in Egypt, where French flair meets Levantine flavor. Try their signature om ali, basbousa, and flaky baklava — or taste Egyptian-style ice cream infused with rosewater and nuts.

Evening Vibes: Café Culture and a Local Twist

As the day winds down, we invite you to relax in one of Alexandria’s atmospheric cafés. you’ll sip mint tea or cardamom-infused coffee while enjoying a traditional shisha if you like. Here, we reflect on the day’s flavors, share laughs.
