Continue to the Valley Temple of King Khafre, built from enormous blocks of limestone and granite Then come face to face with the Great Sphinx. Day 3: Alexandria — Greek & Roman Heritage by the Mediterranean

After breakfast, your WOW TOURS EGYPT Egyptologist guide meets you at your hotel and travel north toward the Mediterranean coast.

As Cairo fades behind you, Alexandria begins to reveal a very different side of Egypt — Begin at the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, where you descend beneath the city into an extraordinary underground world where ancient Egyptian beliefs meet Roman and Greek artistic traditions. Back above ground, stand before Pompey’s Pillar, the towering Roman column rising from the ruins of the ancient Serapeum, once one of Alexandria’s most important temples.

Continue to the Roman Amphitheatre, where surviving marble seats offer a glimpse into the public life of Roman Alexandria nearly two thousand years ago. Then move from the ancient world to the modern city at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a striking tribute to the legendary Library of Alexandria and its enduring connection with knowledge and discovery.

Enjoy a traditional Egyptian lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant.

Your afternoon reveals another side of Alexandria. Visit St. Mark’s Church, deeply connected to the city’s early Christian history and traditionally associated with the arrival of Christianity in Alexandria. Continue to Abbo Elabbas Mosque, where elegant architecture and the sounds of the Mediterranean create one of the city’s most atmospheric landmarks.

Finally, head to the Citadel of Qaitbay, the magnificent 15th-century fortress standing on the Mediterranean shore where the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria once guided ships into the harbor. From the ruins of ancient Alexandria to its timeless sea views, this is the perfect place to pause and take in the city before your journey back to Cairo.
