Giza, built around 2600 BC, the celebrated trio of pyramids on the southern outskirts of Cairo have streamlined the step shape of Djoser’s pyramid at Saqqara. The biggest is Kheops’ great pyramid, but by an optical illusion, the narrower pyramid of Chephren built on higher ground looks taller.
They stand on a lime stone plateau, forming a royal cemetery to which the pharaohs’ mummified bodies were transported from the Nile river.
